Mr. Mark Thackeray, esteemed property owner and renovator, provided the following information:
729 Weingartner Place is a 16-month full restoration project that recently has been completed, literally from the ground up. Built in 1901, this 950 square foot framed house has been transformed into a 2-bedroom, 2-bath single family home that blends the original charm of the fireplace, hardwood floors and brick chimneys with the modern and elegant conveniences of new construction.
The initial challenge was to re-shore (approximately 20” of elevation) the north side of the house using (4) 80-ton capacity hydraulic jacks. Once leveled, new support beams and a foundation wall were poured, providing a solid base for a complete gut and re-build of all interior and exterior surfaces. New framing, windows, doors, plumbing, electric, ductwork and insulation were completed interior, while new sheathing, house wrap, lapboard siding and paint comprised the main exterior projects. During demolition, transom windows and an original bathroom window were discovered behind the old paneling and drop ceilings, whereas the original scalloped “shakes” were found behind the aluminum siding on the front façade of the house. These features have all been restored and preserved.
The Campbell County deed discloses an interesting part of the history of the home, where Reverend William A Hughes of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Covington conveyed the property to the former owner in 1983. Records also indicate that a commercial business once existed in the now vacant lot adjacent to the south side of the residence. Mark Thackeray, the current owner intends to sell the property. Having previously done the “Gulf Station” on Washington, 605/607 on Overton and he and his wife’s current residence on 5th Street, this marks the fourth renovation project completed in East Row.
