This single family residence has undergone a significant renovation.
The owners state:
"In 2019, our family was living in Los Angeles when a condemned house in Newport caught our eye during a visit to our original home. There was something exciting happening in this city and we wanted to be a part of it. Fast forward to 2022, we were expecting our second daughter and eagerly searching for our next project in Newport. 831 Dayton Ave became available, and we raced to put in an offer. She was down to the studs, collapsing in the back and needed a ton of work. Albeit the advice of most of our friends and family to move on because of her condition, we fell in love. We named her “Jaxx Haus”, a dedication to our older daughter and biggest motivation, and for the next 18 months we poured every weekend, late night and spare moment into bringing her back to life.
“Thanks to a few years experience working on our own home and with the help of our talented crew, we proudly finished Jaxx Haus. From laying the tile while our baby napped in the portable playpen next to us, to painting the outside of the house with our 4 year old marking the very first rows of black, rehabilitating this house always meant more to us than just a flip. Newport is a special city with a unique community whose dedication to positive change is ever apparent. We feel so lucky to have laid down roots in Newport when we did, and to have the honor to share our work and love in this home with her first new owners.
“Every utility is a completely new hook up to the city. The first floor also has all new joists from the kitchen to the front of the home.”
Renovation Happy Hours are designed to showcase appropriate renovations of properties in the East Row. They are an opportunity to learn about the structure of our historic homes, to develop renovation ideas for our own homes, and to learn techniques for implementing those historic renovations. You will get to meet and chat with people who are very knowledgeable about renovations in our historic district.
As always, the East Row will provide refreshments. You are welcome to bring additional food and beverages if you would like to contribute.
You are also encouraged to linger and enjoy connecting with your neighbours.
We hope to see you there.
